Aminul Islam Bulbul is poised to be elected the 20th President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), with no opposition expected in the final vote by the newly elected board of directors.
As of 7 pm on Monday, the 25-member BCB board was convening at Hotel Sonargaon Pan Pacific in Dhaka to formally elect the president and two vice-presidents. Multiple reliable sources confirmed that Bulbul—already a frontrunner following the withdrawal of other potential candidates—will assume the top post unopposed.
Former BCB president Faruk Ahmed, though initially speculated to contest for the presidency, has opted out of the race. However, he is widely expected to be appointed as one of the two vice-presidents. The other likely nominee for the vice-presidential role is Nazmul Abedin Fahim, a former national cricketer and newly elected director from Dhaka division.
Director elections finalised
The composition of the new BCB board was largely settled through a mix of uncontested elections and voting in two divisions.
In Dhaka division, despite Reduan Fuad’s attempted withdrawal after the nomination deadline (1 October), his name remained on the ballot. In the vote, Aminul Islam Bulbul and Nazmul Abedin Fahim each secured 15 out of 17 votes, while Fuad received none—confirming their election as directors.
Elsewhere, six directors were elected unopposed:
Chittagong: Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury and Asif Akbar
Khulna: Abdur Razzak and Zulfikar Ali Khan
Sylhet: Rahat Shams
Barisal: Shakhawat Hossain
In Rajshahi division, Mokhlesur Rahman won decisively with 7 votes out of 9, while his rival SM Shams Matin received none.
In Rangpur division, Mohammad Hasanuzzaman emerged victorious with 7 out of 8 votes. His competitors—Rehatul Islam Khoka (0 votes) and Mohammad Nur A Shahadat Swajan (1 vote)—were unsuccessful.
Leadership transition underway
With Tamim Iqbal having ruled himself out of contention weeks ago, Bulbul’s ascent marks a return to administrative leadership by a figure long associated with cricket development in Bangladesh. A former national team manager and BCB official, Bulbul is expected to prioritise grassroots growth, domestic cricket restructuring, and financial transparency.
His likely vice-presidents bring complementary experience: Fahim as a respected ex-player and administrator, and Faruk Ahmed as a former BCB chief with institutional knowledge.
The formal announcement of the BCB’s new leadership is expected later tonight following the conclusion of the board meeting.
