Typhoid vaccine completely halal, says Islamic Foundation DG

Director General of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, Abdus Salam Khan, said that the typhoid vaccine is completely halal.

“Questions had arisen about whether the typhoid vaccine is halal. After proper verification, it has been confirmed that the vaccine contains no haram ingredients, making it completely halal,” he said.

He added that the cure for all diseases comes from Allah, and it is up to us to identify and utilise them. He made these remarks while addressing a workshop of religious leaders at the Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday (8 October).

The workshop was organised as part of an advocacy and planning meeting aimed at strengthening the typhoid vaccination campaign in Narayanganj district. Salam Khan said that doctors and scientists have confirmed the vaccine’s effectiveness against typhoid. He emphasised that it is a very safe vaccine and can play a significant role in public health.

“Through this vaccine, we can seek shifa (healing). If Allah grants this vaccine power, it will bring us relief. There is no possibility of side effects from this vaccine,” he added.

Terming Bangladesh as a country of alem and ulema, he said: “Since this vaccine is halal, our responsibility is to ensure that it serves the people without any religious obstacles.”

The event was presided over by Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia. Also present were Mohammad Anisur Rahman Sarkar, Director of the Dhaka Divisional Office of the Islamic Foundation; Mohammad Rezzakul Haidar, Director of the Imam Training Academy; District Civil Surgeon Dr AFM Mushir Rahman; and officials from various levels.
