BNP not worried about whose house diplomats meet at: Khasru

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Thursday said the party does not worry about whose house the diplomats will meet at.

“Meeting someone does not change anything in politics. What is important is to restore democratic order in the Bangladesh of the future,” he said.

He added, “The bigger question is what the people of Bangladesh want. Political parties must move beyond politics of obstruction and be allowed to work independently.”

The BNP leader made the remarks while briefing journalists after Dr. Rudiger Lotz, the newly appointed Ambassador of Germany, paid a courtesy visit to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the office of the party’s Chairperson in Gulshan.

Amir Khasru said that if a genuine environment for investment is ensured in Bangladesh, there will be no obstacles to investment. “If elections are stable, everything becomes easier. The country will gain international recognition,” he added.

On the July charter, he said, “Whether it is a referendum, reforms, or a consensus commission—regardless of the terminology used, discussions will not go beyond the agreed points. The winners of the election must go to the people.”

The BNP leader also said the party would take careful decisions regarding candidate selection. “It is natural for a major party to have multiple aspirants, but once nominations are given, everyone will work together as one,” he said.
