VP candidates in the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) elections from Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir, Sazzad Hossain Hridoy and Ibrahim Hossain Rony respectively, have alleged that the indelible ink applied on voters’ fingers was fading.
They made the allegations on Wednesday (October 15) around 10:30 am after casting their votes at the IT Building polling centres.
Chhatra Dal candidate Sazzad Hossain Hridoy said, “The ink applied on voters’ fingers is disappearing, which raises concern that some may go to vote again. I have also just cast my vote, but the ink on my finger has already faded. We will submit a written complaint to the election commission regarding this issue.”
Meanwhile, Shibir candidate Ibrahim Hossain Rony said, “The university administration had informed us that the ink to be used would not fade for several days. Unfortunately, it is disappearing within a short time. This has become a concern right at the start of the election.”
Regarding the matter, the Chief Election Commissioner said, “For national elections, ink is imported from Germany, and the remaining portion is destroyed after use. We were unable to procure that ink for our election. However, the best available ink in the country was used. Using this ink in CUCSU elections is not mandatory; it is provided to follow regulations. Voter identities are being verified through voter ID cards, voter numbers, and photographs listed on the voter roll.”
Voting for the CUCSU elections, which started around 9:30 am, will continue uninterrupted until 4:00 pm.
