Jamaat seeks Canadian help in holding acceptable polls

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called for Canada’s full cooperation and technical assistance to hold the upcoming national elections of Bangladesh in a free, fair and acceptable manner.

Jamaat Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman made the call when Canadian High Commissioner to Dhaka Ajit Singh met him at his office at Dhaka’s Bashundhara on Thursday, October 16.

Constructive discussions were also held in the meeting on establishing sustainable democracy in Bangladesh and ensuring independent role of democratic institutions.

They hoped that the bilateral trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada will be strengthened further in future.

Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Central Executive Council Member Mubarak Hossain and Jamaat Amir's Foreign Affairs Advisor Professor Dr Mahmudul Hasan, among others, were also present in the meeting.
