HSIA fire disrupts air traffic: Multiple flights diverted to Ctg, Kolkata

Following a major fire at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), several inbound international and domestic flights have been diverted to alternate airports, while others remain in holding patterns or have returned to their points of origin.

Among the affected flights, a US-Bangla Airlines flight arriving from Bangkok was diverted and landed safely in Chattogram.

An IndiGo flight from Delhi was rerouted to Kolkata, while an Air Arabia service from Sharjah also touched down in Chattogram.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight originating from Saidpur, which was scheduled to land in Dhaka, was instead redirected to Chattogram.

Additionally, a US-Bangla Airlines domestic flight that had taken off from Chattogram bound for Dhaka returned to its point of origin shortly after departure.

Meanwhile, Cathay Pacific’s flight from Hong Kong is currently circling in the airspace, unable to land due to the ongoing emergency.

On the ground, Batik Air flight OD-163 (Dhaka–Kuala Lumpur) and IndiGo flight 6E-1116 (Dhaka–Mumbai) are stranded on the taxiway, awaiting clearance for departure as airport operations remain partially suspended.

The diversions follow the temporary suspension of flight operations at HSIA after the fire broke out in the cargo village this afternoon, prompting a large-scale emergency response involving fire services, the Bangladesh Air Force, Navy, and civil aviation authorities.
