NCP leaders urge teachers to continue strike

National Citizen Party (NCP) leaders Hasnat Abdullah and Dr. Tasnim Zara have urged protesting MPO-listed teachers of non-government educational institutions to continue their strike until their demands are met.

The leaders visited the Central Shahid Minar on October 17, where the teachers have been on a hunger strike, and inquired about their situation while urging them to continue the protest.

The teachers have been on work stoppage for eight consecutive days, demanding an increase in house rent allowance along with two other demands.

Delawar Hossain Azizi, Secretary of the MPO-Listed Education Nationalization Expectant Alliance, shared a photo of Hasnat Abdullah and Dr. Tasnim Zara on his Facebook page, highlighting their urging of the striking teachers.

Meanwhile, the protesting teachers announced a ‘Hunger March’ toward the Education Ministry today, during which they will march holding empty plates. Azizi made this announcement on Saturday night (October 18).

He said, “We are shaping the future generation of this country and strengthening the backbone of the nation. Yet, we do not have security or recognition in our own lives. For years, MPO-listed teachers have been given numerous promises, but nothing has materialized.”

Azizi added, “As teachers, we have reached a point where we have no option but to take to the streets with empty plates. This is not just a symbolic protest; it is an expression of our inner grief, deprivation, and humiliation.”

He further appealed to the government, saying, “The government can end this crisis at any time. We earnestly request that you do not leave us in uncertainty. The teachers’ community wants dignity, not pity. Despite long-standing protests, no assurance has come from the government. Hence, this Hunger March is being held as both a symbolic protest and a voice of our frustration.”
