Bangladesh will train 8,850 people aged between 18 and 35 years in various combat and self-defence disciplines as part of a new national initiative to consolidate national defence, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan said on Monday.
According to the adviser, the training will be conducted at seven centres across the country in the first phase. Participants will receive professional instruction in karate, judo, taekwondo, and firearms handling.
The move aims to build a pool of physically fit, disciplined, and skilled young people capable of contributing to national preparedness and security, said the adviser in a Facebook post.
Officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports said the initiative reflects the government’s broader goal of empowering young citizens through skill-based training, combining sportsmanship with structured discipline.
Further details on selection criteria, duration, and certification for the trainees are expected to be released later.
