JCD leader Jobayed laid to rest in Cumilla

Jagannath University student and Chhatra Dal leader Jobayed Hossain, who was brutally murdered on Sunday, was laid to rest in his hometown in Homna upazila of Cumilla district on Monday night.

He was buried at the family graveyard in Krishnapur village of Asadpur union around 8:00 pm, following his second namaz-e-janaza held after Maghrib prayers at the Homna Kalagachia MA High School grounds.

Among those present at the janaza were Ashraful Alam, Professor of Statistics at Jagannath University; Md Akhter Hossain, General Secretary of Homna Upazila Press Club; Md Mohiuddin, Upazila BNP President; Engineer M A Matin Khan, retired Public Administration Secretary and former APS to former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia; Md. Zahirul Haque Johar, former Upazila Chairman and BNP President; Advocate Md. Azizur Rahman Mollah, former BNP General Secretary and Upazila Chairman; Md. Mozammel Haque Mukul, General Secretary of Upazila BNP; and Maulana Md. Saidul Haque, Upazila Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Earlier, the first namaz-e-janaza was held at the Jagannath University campus.

Jobayed, who was also a member of the convening committee of the JnU unit of the BNP student wing, Chhatra Dal, was killed at the house of a student he tutored in Armanitola, Dhaka, on Sunday afternoon. His murder has sparked outrage among students and others.

Lalbagh Zone Deputy Commissioner Mallik Ahsan Uddin Sami said on Monday evening that three people have been detained in connection with the killing.

“In a special operation, we have so far detained three suspects. However, their identities are being withheld for now to protect the investigation. We will brief the media in detail tomorrow morning,” he added.
