No yielding to any pressure, CEC tells officials

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Wednesday urged government officials not to succumb to any form of pressure while performing their duties in the upcoming elections. He emphasised that the Election Commission would not yield to any unfair influence.

The CEC made the remarks while inaugurating the training for Upazila Nirbahi Officers’ (UNOs) trainer teams at the Election Training Institute (ETI) in Agargaon, Dhaka, ahead of the 13th national parliamentary elections.

“Our message is clear: do not bow to any pressure or unfair influence. Carry out your duties fully in accordance with the law and your own judgment,” he said.

He called on field-level officials to work responsibly and in coordination to ensure a free, fair, and impartial election. “We will provide all necessary support. The Election Commission will not yield to any unfair pressure. We will not give you any unjust orders or directives. All instructions will follow the law, and you are expected to act accordingly,” the CEC added.

Highlighting the importance of responsibility and coordination, he said, “Whatever responsibility comes your way, perform it lawfully, impartially, and professionally. We envision a new Bangladesh, and respect for the law is the most essential factor in realising that dream. A nation that respects the law the most is the most civilised.”

The event was attended by the four Election Commissioners and the Secretary of the Election Commission.
