Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has said that the way army personnel were brought before the International Crimes Tribunal, showing respect for the judicial process, is highly commendable.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday (October 22).
Earlier in the day, 15 army officers were produced before the International Crimes Tribunal, and a decision was made to keep them in a sub-jail.
When asked how the government viewed the matter and why a separate sub-jail was arranged for them, the Law adviser said, “Today, the army personnel appeared before the International Crimes Tribunal with due respect for the judicial process. The way they were brought, and the cooperation extended by the army administration, senior army officials, and the army chief, is truly praiseworthy. Their respect for the rule of law is something we view very positively.”
Regarding their detention in a sub-jail, Dr Nazrul said, “The decision on why they were kept in a sub-jail or where they will be held falls entirely under the jurisdiction of the Home Ministry. They will decide as they deem appropriate. It’s not within my authority to comment on that.”
