A man was killed after being hit by a garbage truck while crossing the road in the Kalapatti area of Jatrabari, Dhaka, around 10:00 pm on Thursday (October 23).
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, 35, son of Abul Hossain, hailing from Paschim Chokhra in Banaripara upazila of Barisal.
According to local residents, the garbage truck operated by Dhaka South City Corporation struck Iqbal.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Mizanur Rahman of Jatrabari Police Station said the victim’s body was recovered from the scene and sent to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) morgue for autopsy following legal procedures. He added that, based on eyewitness accounts, Iqbal was hit by the garbage truck while crossing the street. The vehicle has been seized and is in police custody at the station.
Iqbal’s brother, Md Tariqul Islam, said Iqbal lived in Jatrabari with his family and ran a business in the city. He is survived by one child.
