Indian advertising legend Piyush Pandey dies

Indian advertising legend Piyush Pandey passed away on Friday. The creative mind behind iconic advertisements for Fevicol, Cadbury, and Asian Paints was 70 years old. Pandey had been suffering from an infection. His last rites are scheduled for Saturday.

Pandey had a career spanning nearly four decades in the advertising industry. He served as the Chief Creative Officer Worldwide and Executive Chairman India at Ogilvy.

He joined Ogilvy in 1982 and wrote his first advertisement for Sunlight Detergent. After six years, he entered the company’s creative department, going on to create memorable campaigns for Fevicol, Cadbury, Asian Paints, Luna Moped, Fortune Oil, and numerous other brands.

Pandey received several awards during his career, including the Padma Shri in 2016.

He also ventured into acting, appearing in the 2013 John Abraham film Madras Cafe and in ICICI Bank’s Magic Pencil Project videos. Pandey was the lyricist of Mile Sur Mera Tumhara, a song promoting national integration and unity in diversity. He also co-wrote the screenplay for the film Bhopal Express.
