A strong gas odor has been reported in many parts of Dhaka city, causing concern among residents. However, Titas Gas authorities have urged the public not to panic. Since Saturday night (25 October), the odor has been noticeable in areas including Kuril, Bashundhara, Matikata Gate, Uttara, Ashkona, Bashantek, and Dakkhinkhan.
AHM Masudur Rahman, Deputy General Manager (Public Relations) of Titas Gas, told Jago News that pipeline maintenance work is currently underway in several parts of Dhaka. During maintenance, a type of chemical is used in the pipelines, which may produce an odor. Gas leaks from pipelines can also cause such odors.
He emphasised that there is no need to panic. Residents noticing the odor in any area are advised to inform Titas Gas through their helpline, and an emergency response team will be dispatched immediately.
