Writ seeks quality check of metro rail, flyover bearing pads

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking the formation of a committee to assess the quality of bearing pads used in the metro rail and all flyovers.

The petition was filed on Monday (27 October) in the relevant branch of the High Court by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun in the public interest. The Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, along with other concerned officials, has been named as respondents.

The lawyer stated that a bearing pad fell from a metro rail pillar at Farmgate on Sunday (26 October), killing a man named Abul Kalam and injuring two others. The writ has been filed in response to this incident.

The hearing of the petition is expected to take place this week before a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Asif Hossain.
