In a heartfelt nod to its roots, Delupi, the highly anticipated directorial debut of Mohammad Taukir Islam, will premiere not in Dhaka or Chittagong, but in the very soil that inspired it: Khulna.
Known for his gripping OTT series Shatikap and Sinpat, director Taukir Islam is stepping onto the big screen with a story deeply woven from the lives, landscapes, and emotions of Deluti Union in Paikgachha Upazila, Khulna. The film, produced by Footprint Film Production, is set for a regional premiere on November 7 across theatres in Khulna—and even in surrounding unions and villages—before its nationwide release on November 14.
The production house teased the rollout with a playful social media post on Tuesday (October 28):
“On November 7, Delupi is coming to Khulna / People from all over the country will watch it, next week on the 14th. / Buy tickets, have fun, brother-in-law-aunt, / Delupi will have all the excitement, your mind will be full of joy.”
When asked why Khulna gets first dibs, Taukir explained: “We wanted the people whose lives inspired this story to be the first to see it. This film belongs to them.”
Described as a “fictional reality,” Delupi captures the rhythms of everyday life in the Sundarbans-adjacent region—its joys, struggles, and quiet resilience—through authentic characters and evocative visuals. “I’ve always wanted to tell the stories of real people,” said Taukir. “In every frame and every character of Delupi, I’ve tried to honour their truth.”
Audiences have already responded warmly to the film’s two teasers and its soulful title song. With the trailer dropping soon, anticipation is building nationwide.
For now, Khulna gets the first glimpse—but the rest of Bangladesh won’t have to wait long. Delupi arrives in cinemas everywhere on November 14, promising a cinematic experience rooted in place, yet universal in emotion.
