Teachers continued their sit-in on Friday for the 19th consecutive day, demanding the government promptly implement its assurance to nationalise all Ebtedayee madrasas, both government-funded and non-funded. The teachers are staging the programme in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka.
The protesting teachers said they teach students at madrasas but do not receive salaries. They vowed not to leave the streets until their demands are met.
Madrasa teacher Md Jahangir Alam from Barguna told Jago News, “The government assured us before, but it has not implemented the promise. Today marks the 19th day of our sit-in. Madrasa exams are scheduled for December, and we want to return to classes and exams. We appeal to the government to promptly meet our demand.”
