Villagers beat three suspected cattle thieves to death in Gaibandha's Gobindaganj in the early hours of Sunday, November 2.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Gobindaganj police station's officer-in-charge Bulbul Islam said three men were attempting to steal three cows from Abdus Salam's cowshed in Nasirabad village around 3:00am.
Sensing the matter, the locals chased them. In an effort to save their lives, the suspected thieves jumped into a pond. The villagers pulled them out of the water and gave a good thrashing, leaving two of them dead on the spot and one injured.
Being informed, the police went to the spot around 4:30am and recovered two bodies and rescued another seriously injured, Bulbul said.
The injured was, later, sent to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries.
