Fakhrul condemns brutal, destabilising attack in Chattogram

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed deep concern over the gun attack on BNP’s Chattogram-8 candidate Ershad Ullah during a public meeting on Wednesday, condemning it as an “inhuman and barbaric act of violence.

Ershad Ullah was immediately rushed to Evercare Hospital in Chattogram, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

According to reports, one man was killed and several others were also injured in the attack, which took place amid growing political activity ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections.

“After the fall of the Awami League’s dictatorial regime in the student-public movement, the miscreants have once again begun to create instability in the country by exploiting the current situation,” Fakhrul said in his statement.

He alleged that the attack was part of a conspiracy to disrupt the country’s return to normalcy and obstruct the upcoming election.

“The shooting of Ershad Ullah and others is a manifestation of those evil efforts. Such incidents are being carried out to embarrass the interim government and hinder the next National Parliament election,” the BNP leader added.

Mirza Fakhrul urged people from all walks of life to remain united “to protect democracy, ensure the right to vote, and safeguard lives and property.”

He also demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Police said an investigation is underway, but no suspects have been detained yet. The incident has heightened tensions in Chattogram’s political landscape as campaigning intensifies ahead of the polls.
