Four BNP leaders among five shot in Raozan

Five leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations were shot in an attack in Raozan upazila of Chattogram on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred around 9:00 pm at Kuiyapara Chowdhury Para in Bagowan Union.

The injured were identified as Raozan Upazila unit Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal General Secretary Abdullah Sumon, Bagoan Union unit Krishak Dal Vice President Mohammad Ismail, Bagoan Union unit Sramik Dal Joint Convener Khorshed Alam Chowdhury, Bagoan Union unit Juba Dal Vice President Robiul Hossain Rubel, and BNP activist Mohammad Sohel.

All of them are known followers of two factions loyal to Golam Akbar Khondker, former convenor of the BNP’s Chattogram (North) district unit.

However, followers of Golam Akbar Khondker have accused supporters of the General Secretary of the Raozan Upazila Juba Dal — a follower of suspended BNP Vice Chairman Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury — of carrying out the armed attack.

Raozan Upazila BNP President and Golam Akbar Khondker loyalist Jasim Uddin Chowdhury told Jago News, “Five people were shot in an armed attack led by terrorists loyal to Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury. The injured were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in critical condition. The condition of Abdullah Sumon is particularly worrying.”

He added, “The attack took place around 9:00 pm at Kuiyapara Chowdhury Para in Bagoan Union while the victims were returning home after attending a discussion meeting marking the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day on November 7.”

Attempts to contact Raozan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Monirul Islam were unsuccessful, as his official phone number was found switched off or busy several times.
