The interim government has strongly condemned the violent attack that took place on Wednesday (November 5) at the election campaign event of BNP-nominated candidate for the Chattogram-8 constituency, Ershad Ullah.
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, confirmed the information on Wednesday night.
Abul Kalam Azad said that, according to the preliminary investigation by the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), Ershad Ullah was not the main target of the attack; he was injured by a stray bullet at the scene.
The government has wished him a speedy recovery and ordered a full investigation into the incident.
He stated that the interim government has expressed deep concern over the criminal act and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and rights of all candidates and citizens participating in the democratic process.
The Chief Adviser has directed the security forces to make every effort to identify and arrest the perpetrators and bring them to swift justice.
“There is no place for violence or intimidation in political or social life,” Azad said, adding that the CMP has already launched an operation to apprehend those involved in the attack.
The Deputy Press Secretary also said that the interim government has urged all political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint and maintain peace, ensuring that the upcoming national election in February is held in a peaceful, dignified, and festive atmosphere.
He added that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election across the country.
