HC grants bail to Latif Siddique

The High Court has granted bail to expelled Awami League leader and former minister Abdul Latif Siddique in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over allegations of conspiring to overthrow the interim government.

A High Court bench comprising Justice A.S.M. Abdul Mobin and Justice Sagir Hossain Leon passed the order on Thursday (6 November).

Earlier, Latif Siddique’s bail petitions had been rejected by both the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka and the Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court. On 5 October, following a hearing, the Fifth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Dhaka, Farzana Yasmin, dismissed his bail petition.

Latif Siddique’s lawyer, Tahmina Taherin Mun, filed the bail application, while the state opposed it. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the plea.

Previously, on 29 August, a total of 16 individuals, including former ministers Latif Siddique, Hafizur Rahman Karzon, and Md Abdullah Al Amin, were sent to jail in the same case.

Other accused in the case include journalist Manjurul Alam Panna, Kazi A.T.M. Anisur Rahman Bulbul, Golam Mostofa, Md Mohiul Islam alias Babu, Md Zakir Hossain, Md Tausiful Bari Khan, Md Amir Hossain Sumon, Md Al Amin, Md Najmul Ahsan, Syed Shahed Hasan, Md Shafiqul Islam Delwar, Dewan Mohammad Ali, and Md Abdullahil Kaiyum.
