There will be no note of dissent in July Charter: Nahid

National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Md Nahid Islam has said there will be no note of dissent in the July Charter. “Whatever consensus has been reached, the people will decide the rest. Whatever the people demand will be implemented,” he said.

“We hope to move towards elections very soon based on the legal framework of the July Charter. Embracing the spirit of the mass uprising, we will move forward,” he added.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural event of the University Teachers Forum (UTF) held at the Bangla Academy on Friday afternoon (November 7).

“We want the future parliament and the reform council to include young people, teachers, women, minorities, and professionals from all walks of life so that the path outlined in the July Charter can be implemented,” Nahid Islam said. “Before that, our current demands—particularly the referendum—and our call for Dr Muhammad Yunus to be given the Order of the July Charter must be fulfilled.”

Nahid Islam further said that all those who took part in the mass uprising should be represented in the next parliament. “That parliament will form a reform council to work on a new constitution. Teachers must play a role there. On behalf of the National Citizen Party, we will work to ensure that,” he added.
