BPSC recommends 668 candidates in 49th BCS final results

The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) has published the final results of the 49th Special BCS examination, recommending 668 candidates for appointment to the education cadre.

The results were released around 10:15 pm on Tuesday (November 11), confirmed BPSC Public Relations Officer SM Matiur Rahman.

According to a circular signed by BPSC Exam Controller Masuma Afrin, out of 683 vacant posts, 668 candidates have been temporarily nominated for appointment to the education cadre based on merit. Fifteen positions could not be filled due to a lack of qualified candidates in certain subjects.

An analysis of the results shows that among the recommended candidates for lecturer posts, 61 are from Bangla, 50 from English, 55 from Political Science, 30 from Philosophy, 40 from Economics, 15 from Zoology, 30 from History, 25 from Social Work, 30 from Chemistry, 15 from Islamic Studies, 32 from Islamic History and Culture, 25 from Physics, and 24 from Botany.

Additionally, 15 candidates have been nominated in Sociology, 30 in Mathematics, 16 in Geography, 30 in Accounting, 10 in Marketing, 32 in Management, 20 in Finance and Banking, 10 in Psychology, 5 in Agriculture, 15 in Statistics, 5 in Sanskrit, 6 in Home Economics, 25 in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and 2 in Food and Nutrition.

Meanwhile, 13 candidates have been recommended for lecturer posts at government teacher training colleges under the general education cadre. These include 2 in Geography, 6 in Education, 2 in Economics, 2 in English, and 3 in Islamic Ideology.

According to BPSC sources, the 49th Special BCS circular was issued on July 21 to address the acute shortage of teachers in government colleges. Online applications were accepted from July 22 to August 22, attracting a total of 312,752 applicants.

The written (MCQ-type) examination was held on October 10, with 176,670 candidates taking part, while 136,082 applicants — about 41 percent — did not appear despite registering.

The written results were published within six working days, with 1,219 candidates qualifying for the viva voce, which began on November 2. The BPSC conducted the interviews in record time and released the final results shortly thereafter, completing the entire process of the 49th Special BCS within just three months of the circular’s publication.
