First verdict in July uprising case today

The first verdict in the case filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two others over crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising will be delivered on Monday. Proceedings of the verdict announcement from the courtroom of International Crimes Tribunal-1 are scheduled to be broadcast live.  

A three-member panel of International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mazumder, will deliver the verdict. The other members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmood and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

The two other accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. Mamun testified as a state witness.

The prosecution has claimed that all five charges against Hasina and the other accused have been proven and has sought the maximum punishment.

Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Sunday that whatever verdict the tribunal delivers in the case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday will be executed and that people will accept it.
