Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in connection with a case of crimes against humanity, in which former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan are also accused.
A three-member panel of ICT-1, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mazumder, is set to deliver the verdict in the case on Monday. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
The prosecution has brought five charges against the accused and demanded the maximum punishment for Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan. Government-appointed lawyers, however, have pleaded for the acquittal of all the accused, including the approver, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
