Bus set on fire in Narayanganj while driver, helper asleep

Miscreants set fire to a bus parked near the Zilla Parishad area on the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road in Narayanganj in the early hours of Monday. Locals noticed the fire on the bus, named ‘Allah Bhorosha,’ around 1:30 am and informed the police and fire service. The bus driver and his helper were asleep at the time of the incident, and several seats were burnt.

The bus driver, Nasir, said he did not see who set the fire as he was asleep. He added that he would no longer park vehicles by the roadside.

Shahjahan Mia, Senior Station Officer of Narayanganj Fire Service, said the bus, which transported workers of Russell Garments, was parked with the driver and helper asleep. The fire was noticed in front of the driver’s seat, and the fire service was immediately informed. However, locals managed to extinguish the fire before the arrival of two fire units, preventing major damage. Only a few seats were burnt.

Anwar Hossain, Inspector (Investigation) of Fatulla Model Police Station, said the fire was controlled by the locals. Thanks to the alertness of the driver and his helper, the bus suffered minimal damage. Authorities are working to identify who set the fire.
