Army and police members baton-charged a group of people, including students, when they attempted to move forward with an excavator to further demolish the broken house of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka.
In response, the crowd began pelting bricks, and soon a series of chases and counter-chases created a tense atmosphere throughout the area.
Overall, a tense situation is prevailing at the scene. To bring the situation under control, security forces have taken a firm position. The army remains on high alert to maintain order, while police have used sound grenades.
Earlier, the army cordoned off the entire road and took a strict position. Meanwhile, students and locals—positioned with excavators—intensified the situation with various anti–Awami League slogans.
At that time, a group of students said, “No matter what obstacles come, right after the verdict against killer Sheikh Hasina is announced, we want to smash house number 32 to the ground. It was from there that orders were given to fire at our brothers, sisters and parents. We no longer want to preserve any memory of that house.”
