The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has reported that 198 murder incidents have occurred in the capital over the past 10 months.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman disclosed the figures to journalists on Tuesday (November 18). He said that, on average, around 20 murder cases take place in Dhaka each month, with police solving most of them.
Regarding the killing of Juba Dal leader Golam Kibria in Pallabi, the DC said police are currently investigating the case. One suspect has been arrested so far, and authorities hope to uncover key details after apprehending the remaining two suspects. However, he noted that no case has yet been filed by the victim’s family.
Earlier, on Monday (November 17) at around 6:40pm, Golam Kibria was shot dead at a hardware store near the old Pallabi Police Station in Sector C. CCTV footage shows three masked and helmeted individuals entering the store and shooting him at close range. Kibria tried to take cover behind a chair, but the assailants shot him within 10 seconds before fleeing the scene. Despite others being present in the store, no one was able to intervene.
