300 workers injured while rushing out of factory during quake in Gazipur

More than 300 workers suffered injuries while rushing out of a garment factory in Gazipur as an earthquake jolted different parts of the country on Friday morning, November 21.

The incident occurred at Denimic Limited in Gargaria Master Bari area of Sreepur upazila around 10:38am.

Panic gripped workers when the earthquake shook the seven-storey building, and many of them sustained injuries while trying to rush out of the factory, the factory workers said.

The injured have been rushed to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur, Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Syeda Afroza Ema, a doctor at the emergency department of Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, stated that 70-80 patients have been admitted to the hospital so far, and relatives of the patients are taking them to other hospitals as there are no adequate beds at the facility.

Earlier, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake jolted Dhaka and other parts of the country around 10:38 and lasted about a minute.
