Petrol bomb thrown at Magura land office

A petrol bomb thrown on the Magura Sadar Upazila Land Office early Saturday, December 6, caused significant damage to one of its rooms and to three rooms used by deed writers at the nearby Sub-Registry Office.

According to police, the attack occurred when miscreants opened the shutters of a window in Room No. 5 on the ground floor and hurled a petrol bomb inside, triggering a loud explosion.

Quoting local people, Magura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ayub Ali said that a group of miscreants also carried out petrol bomb attacks on three rooms used by deed writers in the courtyard of the Sadar Sub-Registry Office.

Part of the area behind the Sub-Registrar’s courtroom caught fire. Important documents, including deeds, tickets, and receipts belonging to three deed writers, were burned, he added.

On information, a team of Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel rushed to the scene after receiving the alert. They recovered a bottle filled with petrol and several empty bottles from the area.

Police, along with the Sadar Upazila Land Officer and senior officials including Asma Akter, later visited the site as part of the investigation.

Md Alep Molla, Squadron Leader of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, said they received a call around 3:30 am regarding the fire.

“Upon reaching the scene, we found the furniture inside the room completely burned. A petrol-filled bottle and several empty bottles were recovered. We eventually managed to bring the situation under control,” he said.
