Attempt underway to create division in name of religion: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that there is currently an attempt in Bangladesh to create division in the country in the name of religion. He added that while they are people of faith, they do not use religion to divide the state or society.

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks on Sunday (7 December) during the inauguration of BNP’s seven-day programme titled ‘Plan to Build the Nation’ at the Krishibid Institute in Khamarbari, Dhaka. The closing speech will be delivered by BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, and the programme was chaired by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He said, “We must always remember that July 24 has brought significant changes in the mindset of the people across Bangladesh, especially the youth. Now everyone wants change—change in governance, change in thinking. We want to see a new Bangladesh.”

Fakhrul added that the fascist Awami League government has destroyed all the country’s institutions during its 15 years of misrule. He emphasised that rebuilding these institutions and developing the nation has inspired BNP leader Tarique Rahman.

He further said, “Our youth feel that even after graduating, there are no jobs. During these 15 years, jobs have been virtually impossible to obtain. Everywhere, there is the Awami League’s misrule. But in a new Bangladesh, how will we solve this problem?”

Highlighting employment plans, Fakhrul said that one million jobs will be created over the next 18 months. He added that employment opportunities will not only include jobs but also ventures in business, agriculture, and labour, and that the final plans to implement this have already been completed.
