The Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s scheduled meeting with allied parties involved in the joint anti-government movement has been postponed from Thursday evening to Saturday at 11:00 am.
The meeting was deferred due to the busy schedules of senior BNP leaders and the absence of several key alliance figures, including Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Nurul Haque, and Zonayed Saki.
BNP leaders, among them Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and several Standing Committee members, waited until 8:00 pm before deciding on the new date.
Gono Adhikar Parishad General Secretary Rashed Khan said more than 40 parties have been part of the movement with BNP since 2022 and now expect fair discussions on seat-sharing.
Both the BNP and its allies have already announced their candidates, and Saturday’s meeting is expected to focus on determining seat allocations for partner parties, he added.
Rashed welcomed the Election Commission’s announcement of the February 12 election date, saying sustained political pressure played a role in the early release of the schedule. He also confirmed his preparation to contest from the Jhenaidah-2 constituency and dismissed rumors of him joining the BNP as “entirely baseless.”
He reaffirmed that the alliance remains united and committed to resolving seat-sharing issues through dialogue, adding, “We are with the BNP and will remain with the BNP.”
