Asif Mahmud announces independent candidacy for Dhaka-10

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan has announced his candidacy for the Dhaka-10 constituency as an independent candidate in the 13th parliamentary elections.

He made the announcement via a video message on his Facebook page at 11:51 am on Friday, December 12.

A former student leader during the July Uprising, Asif Mahmud previously served as an adviser in the interim government. During his tenure, he oversaw the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He was also responsible for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, though this portfolio was later reassigned.

Notably, Asif Mahmud submitted his resignation on Wednesday, December 10, ahead of his election bid.

He enrolled in the department of Linguistics at Dhaka University under 2017–18 academic session and completed his undergraduate studies there. During his tenure as an adviser, Asif Mahmud also sat for the graduate admission test at North South University and successfully passed. He secured admission to the Executive Masters in Policy and Governance (EMPG) program at the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG).

Born on  July 14, 1998 at Akubpur union of Muradnagar upazila in Comilla, Asif Mahmud is the son of Mohammad Billal Hossain and Roksana Begum.
