A local BNP leader was shot dead allegedly by his cousin in Pabna's Ishwardi on Wednesday morning, December 17.
The deceased, Biru Molla, 60, was the convener of the Lakshmikunda union unit BNP under the upazila.
Locals said Biru Molla and his cousin Jahurul Islam Molla had been at loggerheads over cutting soil at the char of the Padma River. In continuation of this, they locked into an altercation at Kamalpur village around 9:30 am, and at one stage, Jahurul opened fire at Biru, leaving him seriously wounded.
He was rushed to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Ishwardi police station's officer-in-charge, Mominuzzaman, said the police personnel are on the scene and an investigation is underway.
