Police recovered the hanging body of a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP) from a female student hostel in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh in the early hours of Thursday, December 18.
The deceased, Jannatara Rumi, 30, was the joint coordinator of the NCP’s Dhanmondi thana unit and the daughter of Md Jakir Hossain from Nazirpur area under Patnitala upazila in Naogaon, reports UNB.
Being informed around 4:10 am, police recovered the hanging body from a room on the fifth floor of Jannati Girls Hostel at Jhigatala Old Kachabazar Road, said Hazaribagh police station’s officer-in-charge, Hafizur Rahman.
The room, where Rumi used to live alone, was found locked from the inside, he said.
The body was sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
It is yet unclear whether the death was a suicide case or murder, police said.
