Police recovered the bodies of two siblings from a freezer van parked in the garage of a house in the Wireless intersection area under Hatirjheel Police Station in the capital on Sunday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Afrida Chowdhury, 10, and her younger brother Ilham Chowdhury, aged one year and four months. Their father is Mosleh Uddin Chowdhury, and the family’s ancestral home is located in the Kotwali Police Station area of Cumilla.
Hatirjheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge Golam Mortuza confirmed the matter on Sunday morning (21 December). He said the autopsies of the two children had been completed and the bodies had been handed over to the family.
According to police, the family initially reported that the siblings fell ill after eating breakfast on Saturday morning. They were later taken to a local hospital by relatives, where they died while undergoing treatment.
Hatirjheel Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Suman Mia said that upon receiving the information, police recovered the two bodies from inside a freezer van parked in the garage of a house in the Wireless intersection area. Following legal procedures, the bodies were sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
He added that the family told police the children became ill after having breakfast and were taken to Moghbazar Community Hospital, where they died during treatment. Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are ongoing.
