Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has directed law enforcement agencies to swiftly arrest those involved in the killing of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Osman Hadi and others engaged in illegal activities, emphasising that the law-and-order situation must be kept normal at any cost ahead of the national elections.
The Chief Adviser gave the instructions while addressing a meeting to review the country’s overall law and order situation at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday, the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing reported Monday morning. Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, and senior officials from various security and law enforcement agencies were present at the meeting.
During the discussion, officials reviewed several key issues, including security arrangements for the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, preparations for upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations, and other related security measures.
The meeting also covered the progress of investigations and arrests in connection with the killing of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson and July fighter Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi. Police officials informed the Chief Adviser that 31 individuals had been identified as suspects in recent attacks on the offices of two national daily newspapers and two cultural organizations through video footage review.
As of Monday morning, at least nine people have been arrested in raids conducted across the city and other parts of the country in connection with the attacks. Among the arrestees, seven have been immediately identified: Md Kashem Faruqi, Md Saidur Rahman, Rakib Hossain, Md Naim, Faisal Ahmed Pranta, Md Sohel Rana, and Md Shafikul Islam. Operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects, while the identities of two others arrested by the police’s Counter Terrorism Unit and Intelligence Police are being verified.
Additionally, three individuals involved in attempts to create disorder near the residence of the Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chattogram have been identified through video analysis.
