Bullet-hit Khulna NCP leader out of danger

Motaleb Shikdar, 37, a leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), who came under a gun attack in Khulna on Monday, December 22, is now out of danger, police and hospital sources said.

He is currently undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital.

According to police, the attack took place at around 12:00 pm, when unidentified assailants opened fire on Shikdar. Local residents rushed to his aid and took him to the hospital, after which he was sent to Sheikhpara City Imaging Centre for a CT scan.

Hospital officials said the scan confirmed that no bullet fragments remained in his body. Harun or Rashid, the resident medical officer at Khulna Medical College Hospital, said the bullet had grazed the skin near Shikdar’s left ear before exiting.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Khulna’s Sonadanga Police Station, said Shikdar’s condition was stable. “He is currently out of danger. An investigation is under way to determine the full circumstances of the incident,” he said.

Police are continuing efforts to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the shooting.
