Ex-DMP chief, 10 others formally charged at ICT

The prosecution has filed formal charges against 11 individuals, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, in a case alleging crimes against humanity over the shooting death of Imam Hossain Taim in Dhaka's Jatrabari area.

The charges were submitted on Wednesday (24 December) to the Registrar of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).

Other accused include former DMP Additional Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former DC of Wari Zone Iqbal Hossain, ADC Shakil Mohammad Shamim, Md Masudur Rahman Monir, Nahid Ferdous, then Jatrabari Police Station OC Abul Hasan, Zakir Hossain, Md Wahidul Haq Mamun, Sajjad Uz Zaman, and Md Shahdat Ali. All the remaining accused were serving police officers at the time.

Taim was killed in police firing on 20 July 2024 during the anti-discrimination student movement. His father, Md Maynal Hossain Bhuiyan, is a sub-inspector at Rajarbagh Police Lines. On that day, Taim had gone out for tea with a friend but was shot dead in Jatrabari.
