The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Maulana Ataur Rahman Bikrampuri from Narsingdi on Tuesday night.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrest on Wednesday (24 December) afternoon.
He said Ataur Rahman was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan DB following a request from the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) and was later handed over to GMP.
A GMP source added that, under the instruction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the DB detained Ataur Rahman and handed him over to Tongi East Police Station. After completing the necessary legal procedures, he was sent to Kashimpur Central Jail.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi East Police Station, Md Mehedi Hasan, said there was a detention order against Ataur Rahman from the Ministry of Home Affairs. “After the DMP detained him, they handed him over to us, and we then sent him to Kashimpur Central Jail,” he added.
