The police have arrested a Juba League activist who is believed to be a close associate of motorcycle rider Alamgir, an accused in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
On a tip-off, law enforcers apprehended Himon, an activist of Adabor thana unit Juba League, from a residential hotel in Adabor area.
Md Jewel Rana, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Mohammadpur Division, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday evening, December 24.
On information gleaned from him, the police, later, recovered a foreign pistol, three rounds of bullets, and a huge quantity of explosive substances from Mohammadpur area, Jewel said.
Himon maintains a close relation with Faisal and Alamgir, the prime accused in the murder of Hadi, a source in the police said.
Sharif Osman bin Hadi was shot in the head on December 12 while travelling on a rickshaw on Culvert Road in the capital's Bijoynagar area after Jumma prayers.
He initially underwent surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was later admitted to Evercare Hospital.
For advanced treatment, he was airlifted to Singapore, where he succumbed to his injuries on the night of December 18.
