A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered ballistic examinations of cartridges and bullets recovered from the scene of the shooting that led to the death of Inqilab Mancha convener Sharif Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid passed the order following a petition filed by the investigating officer, directing the Special Superintendent of Police of the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Ballistics Branch to conduct detailed forensic analysis of the seized evidence.
In the application, the investigating officer said scientific examination of the firearms-related evidence was crucial to uncover the mystery surrounding the killing and to identify those responsible.
According to the case details, Sharif Osman Hadi was critically injured in a shooting incident in front of DR Tower on Paltan’s Bijaynagar Box Culvert Road on December 12.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital as his condition worsened.
On December 15, Hadi was flown to Singapore General Hospital by air ambulance for advanced treatment.
He died there on December 18 while undergoing treatment.
Hadi’s body was brought back to Bangladesh on the morning of December 20, after which an autopsy and post-mortem examination were completed.
Investigators said they are now prioritising scientific and forensic evidence to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the murder.
