Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed at key locations in the capital to provide security for BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman upon his arrival from London, United Kingdom.
BGB Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed the information on Thursday (25 December) morning.
Shariful Islam said that, to ensure security during Tarique Rahman’s return, BGB personnel have been stationed at the airport, 300 Feet, Gulshan, and other important locations in the capital.
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and daughter Zaima Rahman landed at Sylhet Osmani International Airport in Sylhet at 9:57 am. He is scheduled to attend a reception programme at 300 Feet in Dhaka after arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and will then travel to his Gulshan residence via Evercare Hospital.
Additional crowds are expected along the route from Shahjalal International Airport via Purbachal Expressway to Evercare Hospital and then to his Gulshan residence. Accordingly, strict security arrangements have been put in place in these areas.
Tarique Rahman went to the United Kingdom with his family in 2008. In 2012, he applied for political asylum there, which was granted within a year. Since then, he had not returned to Bangladesh. Although his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, visited the country a few times when necessary, he did not.
