Tarique reaches Gulshan home, thanks countrymen for warm welcome

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman finally reached his Gulshan residence on Thursday night after a long and eventful day marking his homecoming following 17 years abroad.

Tarique Rahman reached his residence at house 196 on North Avenue in Gulshan at around 8:25pm on December 25.

He arrived there along with his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman, daughter Zaima Rahman and other family members, travelling in a red-and-green bus from Evercare Hospital after visiting his mother, former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment there.

Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman went directly from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to the public reception venue on July 36 Expressway.

Meanwhile, his wife and daughter had reached the Gulshan residence at around 12:55pm. They went to Evercare Hospital, while Tarique Rahman proceeded to the hospital from the rally venue.

Dhaka witnessed an unprecedented turnout of people during the historic homecoming of the BNP acting chairman, with huge crowds lining the route from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to the July 36 Expressway.

In response, Tarique Rahman expressed his sincere thanks and gratitude to the country’s people for the warm reception.

In a press release issued on Thursday through BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Tarique Rahman said that countless people had gathered along the route to welcome him after his return from London following 17 years in exile, turning the entire capital into “an ocean of people”.

He expressed deep gratitude to leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations from Dhaka and across the country who came to welcome him.

Tarique Rahman also thanked members of the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police and other law enforcement agencies for ensuring that the reception was held peacefully and smoothly.

In addition, he conveyed his appreciation to journalists and media personnel for covering the events of the day.
