Tarique visits Hadi's grave, offers fateha

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman visited the grave of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi and offered fateha at Dhaka University on Saturday, December 27, on the third day of his return to the country.

He also offered fateha at the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, located beside the Dhaka University Central Mosque.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reached the grave premises earlier to accompany Tarique Rahman.

Tarique Rahman left his Gulshan Avenue residence around 10:40 am in a white bulletproof SUV and arrived on the Dhaka University campus at about 11:15 am amid tight security.

After paying his respects, he is scheduled to visit the Election Commission office to complete his National Identity Card (NID) registration and enlist himself as a voter.

He will later go to Mahbub Bhaban in Dhanmondi, his father-in-law’s residence, and then visit Evercare Hospital to see his ailing mother.

His scheduled visit to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), popularly known as Pangu Hospital, to meet those injured during the July 2024 mass uprising has been cancelled.

Sharif Osman bin Hadi, a prominent figure of the July Mass Uprising last year, was shot in the head on December 12 while travelling on a rickshaw on Culvert Road in the capital's Bijoynagar area after Jumma prayers.

He initially underwent surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and was later admitted to Evercare Hospital.

For advanced treatment, he was airlifted to Singapore, where he succumbed to his injuries on the night of December 18.

Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh on Thursday morning, December 25, after nearly 17 years abroad. His homecoming has drawn widespread attention and strong emotions among BNP leaders, activists and supporters nationwide, with party leaders describing it as historic.
