Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a mass rally in the capital to press several demands, including ensuring law and order and bringing to justice those responsible for the murder of Shaheed Sharif Osman bin Hadi.
The rally will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday, January 3, with party amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman in the chair.
In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the party’s Publicity Department said the programme will begin at 12:00 noon. Jamaat leaders will demand the arrest and punishment of all those involved in Hadi’s killing and call for immediate steps to prevent further deterioration of the law and order situation.
The statement said the rally will also call for the recovery of illegal weapons to ensure public safety. In addition, Jamaat will urge people to vote “yes” in the upcoming referendum to implement the July Charter aimed at building a new state structure.
