6 trainee ASPs sacked at Police Academy in Rajshahi

Six probationary Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) from the 41st BCS (Police) batch have been dismissed while undergoing training at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi.

The dismissed trainee ASPs are Md Delwar Hossain, Mahmudul Haque, Md Ishaq Hossain, Md Mashiur Sahman, Muhammad Rakib Anwar and Sayeed Karim Mugdha.

An official notification issued by Police Branch-1 of the Public Security Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed the dismissals on Sunday (December 28).

The order, signed by Deputy Secretary Md Mahbubur Rahman, was issued under Rule 6(2)(a) of the Bangladesh Civil Service Recruitment Rules, 1981, which allows the termination of probationary officers deemed “unsuitable for continued service.” The decision was taken with the approval of the President.

All six were among the 102 trainee ASPs currently undergoing a year-long foundational training programme at the Sardah Police Academy in Charghat, Rajshahi. The course is scheduled to conclude next month.

Saiful Islam, Superintendent of Police (Administration) at the Bangladesh Police Academy, said the academy had not yet received the official notification. “We are not aware of this matter,” he said, suggesting a delay in communication from Dhaka.

The dismissals, coming just weeks before the completion of training, have drawn attention, as such actions at the final stage of probation are uncommon. Although the notification did not specify the reasons, Rule 6(2)(a) is generally applied in cases involving performance shortcomings, disciplinary issues or failure to meet service standards during the probationary period.
