Gold price raise by Tk 1,575 per bhori

Gold prices in Bangladesh have climbed to a new record, with the price of 22-carat gold increasing by Tk 1,575 per bhori (11.664 grams) to Tk 2,29,431, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS).

The latest hike was approved at a meeting of BAJUS’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Sunday and was formalised through a circular signed by committee chairman Dr Dewan Aminul Islam Shah. The revised prices will come into effect from Monday (December 29).

BAJUS said the increase was driven by a rise in the price of pure gold in the domestic market.

The new rate comes just a day after gold prices were raised by Tk 1,574 per bhori, which had already pushed the price to a then-record Tk 227,856.

Under the revised rates, 21-carat gold will sell at Tk 2,18,992 per bhori, up by Tk 1,458, while 18-carat gold has been set at Tk 1,87,731, an increase of Tk 1,283. The price of traditional handcrafted gold has risen by Tk 1,108 to Tk 1,56,531 per bhori.

Gold prices have seen repeated hikes throughout December. Rates were increased by Tk 4,199 on December 24, Tk 3,966 on December 23, Tk 1,050 on December 22, Tk 1,470 on December 16, Tk 3,442 on December 14 and Tk 1,050 on December 12.

Silver prices, however, remain unchanged. The price of 22-carat silver stands at Tk 6,065 per bhori, 21-carat at Tk 5,774, 18-carat at Tk 4,957, and traditional silver at Tk 3,732.

Industry insiders say the continued surge reflects both global market trends and higher domestic refining costs, pushing gold prices to historic highs and raising concerns among consumers and jewellers alike.
