The authorities of Comilla University (CoU) have suspended one of its teachers from the university for allegedly using a fake teaching experience certificate to secure his appointment at the university.
The suspended teacher was identified as Abdu Obaida Rahid, a lecturer of the Marketing department of the university.
CoU registrar (additional charge) Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossen confirmed the matter to Jago News on Monday morning, December 29.
Sources at the university said that Rahid was appointed at the department on January 29, 2023 despite not fulfilling the required qualifications. He submitted a false certificate claiming six years of teaching experience at the Business Administration department of CCN Science and Technology University, Comilla from November 25, 2016 to November 17, 2022.
Following media reports, the university formed an investigation committee, which verified the authenticity of the allegations. Acting on the committee’s recommendations, the syndicate approved his suspension on December 28. He has also been barred from entering the campus.
A three-member higher-level committee has also been formed to carry out a detailed investigation.
Abu Obaida Rahid, however, could not be reached over the phone despite repeated attempts for his comment in this regard.
